It is similar to Wings3D, but with a smaller learning curve thanks to some quality of life advantages and built-in tutorials. Metasequoia is good old fashioned shareware no subscription plan. ![]() It is in active development with updates). Unfortunately, it has no support for bones/rigging/animation, UV/texture editing is not user-friendly, and it is mildly buggy (but Great for static assets up to a moderate level of complexity, with more built-in features than you might guess at first glance. It has an initial learning curve, but it's smartly-designed and modeling flows quickly with practice. My choice: Metasequoia 4 Standard and Wings3D I've only started learning rigging and animation, now that I can do so comfortably. (The concepts were not entirely new to me when I started.) I've done my modeling using Wings3D, but it only produces static models, which is why I went searching for a new alternative this week. Quick context: I've been actively practicing 3D modeling for about a year and a half for a solo project in Godot Engine. I spent a long time searching all over for the best alternative, and I'd like to share what I found along the way for anyone who isn't enamored with Blender, whether you're a beginner, a solo indie dev, or an expert interested in something new to play with. I'm not here to gripe about Blender, but I don't like it one bit. ![]()
